Carson, Calif. (Monday, Jan. 27, 2014) – Chivas USA announced today the addition of defender Fejiro Okiomah to the club. The 23-year-old versatile defender joins the Red-and-White after spending the past season with USL PRO side the Charlotte Eagles. Per club and league policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
The Austin, Texas native signed with the Eagles in March of 2013 after splitting time the previous four years playing at High Point University and with the PDL’s Carolina Dynamo. Starting in 25 of his 26 games played at center back, Okiomah anchored the Eagles’ back line that helped lead the club to the USL PRO Championship against Major League Soccer’s newest expansion team, Orlando City Lions FC.
As a member of the Dynamo, the defender led his squad to three playoff appearances. With 42 games under his belt and four goals, Okiomah and the Dynamo reached the PDL championship against Canadian side Forest City London on Aug. 4, 2012, before moving on to play for the Eagles.
Okiomah finished his collegiate career in 2012 by starting in all 20 matches at center back for the Panthers during his senior year. The 6-foot-2 Texan was part of a defense that averaged less than a goal against per game and recorded nine shutouts. His stellar performance earned the defender First Team All-Big South honors and a spot on the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region team.
He also displayed his versatility at HPU, competing at all three sectors of the pitch for the Panthers. Okiomah finished his career with 19 goals, 12 of them as a forward during his sophomore year, and earned honors as a four-time All-Conference and two-time NSCAA All-Region selection.
